TRAVEL- 10 most scenic airport landings revealed
A panel of travel experts and public poll has helped put together a countdown of the most picturesque places to  touchdown in 2016- from Malta to LA and back again.
Private jet booking service PrivateFly has conducted a global poll of the most picturesque approaches in international skies.
It sounds like something of a ridiculous survey, until you call into mind the last time you were airborne. Night flights aside, few would argue that looking down at everything from the lie of the land to an endless expanse of ocean can be inspiring, and as that ground gets closer the detail in view increases.
After nominations were taken from professionals working in the travel industry the shortlist was put to the public vote, before a final countdown was unveiled which puts Malta as the number one destination to land in 2016.
Renowned for its history, year-round mild climate and jaw dropping natural beauty, this tiny dot of land in the southern Mediterranean, along with neighbours Gozo and Comino, boast jaw-dropping vistas from the window seat as planes come into land. Previous winners include Queenstown (2015), Nice Cote D’Azur (2014), the Caribbean island of St. Maarten/ St. Martin (2013), and Barra in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides (2012).
Other notable mentions would be London’s City Airport, whereby passengers are landing straight into one of the world’s busiest and biggest metropoles (you can almost see into apartments just before the wheels touch down), LAX in L.A., which offers Hollywood-worthy views of the city’s compact downtown and intimidating urban sprawl, and St. Maarten, which sees planes almost landing on the heads of beach bums lazing on pristine tropical sands.
